Welcome to age of everything vying for our attention. No matter where we may find ourselves on any given day, there's something or someone in reach seeking to gain our attention. Technology is the biggest culprit, we cannot reach for our phones to check the time without reading a text message, playing an online game, or checking our social media accounts. It's so easy for just about anything to occupy our space, and at times we don't even realize how quickly it has occurred.
The same holds true when it comes to the people we allow into our space. The people closest to us are usually the biggest offenders with distractions and/or holding us back. We've been conditioned to believe and accept that our family members should be allowed to occupy permanent mental, emotional, and physical space in our lives, and we're expected to put up with whatever comes from them. Not true! If a person (family, friend or associate) is causing you to be stressed, depressed, or ill, you don't have to make room for them in your "life space." It may be time to evaluate your day-to-day surroundings and "tune in" to see who's speaking life into you or who might be wishing doom upon you. Tune in, so you can tune out! Here's how you can do that:
1. Paying close attention to what being said, as much as what's not being said.
2. Take note of your genuine support system. We all need a cheerleader from time to time.
3. Is everything always about them? Are you always in the background?
4. Are they in tune with you to know when you're having a tough time?
5. Do you have fun and enjoy their company?
It's a simple process! Your answers will determine your next move. Life is too precious to spend it tuned in to the wrong people. Change the channel and you will change your life.
